At Allevate Health in Franklin, Massachusetts, we offer StemWave® therapy for patients interested in a noninvasive approach to minor muscle and joint discomfort. StemWave® uses focused mechanical energy delivered externally to targeted tissue without an incision.
Applied externally without an incision
Mechanical-wave energy directed to a targeted area
No medication is administered by the StemWave® device
StemWave® is intended for the temporary relief of minor muscle and joint aches and pains. The technology delivers focused mechanical waves from outside the body, providing a nonsurgical option for patients exploring a different approach to musculoskeletal discomfort.
We offer StemWave® at our Franklin, MA location as part of our individualized approach to care. Whether this technology is appropriate for you depends on your needs, health history, and overall care plan.
THE DEVICE
StemWave® is an electrohydraulic focused-wave system powered by proprietary PACE® technology. The device generates controlled mechanical waves and directs that energy into targeted tissue without breaking the skin.
Unlike a medication, StemWave® works through mechanical stimulation. The technology is designed to create a focused physical signal within the treatment area while remaining noninvasive.
Adding a new technology to care does not mean it is automatically right for every patient. At Allevate Health, we believe treatment should reflect the individual rather than follow a one-size-fits-all approach.
For patients visiting our Franklin location, StemWave® gives us another noninvasive option to consider when discussing minor muscle and joint aches and pains. The decision to use it should be based on the person receiving care, their needs, and their clinical circumstances.

The applicator can be positioned over specific areas based on the treatment being provided.
PACE® technology generates electrohydraulic waves that carry mechanical energy into targeted tissue.
Cells naturally respond to mechanical forces through a process called mechanotransduction. In simple terms, mechanotransduction is the way a physical stimulus can be converted into cellular signals.
Research on extracorporeal shock-wave and focused-wave technologies continues to examine how this type of mechanical stimulation interacts with tissue. The effects observed in broader shock-wave research can vary by technology, treatment parameters, condition, and patient population.
StemWave® is applied externally using a handheld applicator positioned over the area being addressed.
The device generates focused electrohydraulic waves that travel into the tissue and create a controlled mechanical stimulus. Because the application is noninvasive, no incision or injection is required.
The way StemWave® is used at our Franklin location is based on individual needs and clinical circumstances.
Extracorporeal shock-wave technologies have been studied in musculoskeletal medicine and rehabilitation. Research has reported improvements in pain or function in some studied patient populations, while also showing that results differ according to the condition, technology, treatment protocol, and quality of the available evidence.
Broader research on focused and radial shock-wave therapies helps inform understanding of this field, but those studies should not be interpreted as proof that the branded StemWave® device will produce identical outcomes for every use or every patient.
At Allevate Health in Franklin, we believe new and established treatment technologies should be considered with appropriate clinical context and realistic expectations.
StemWave® states that its device is FDA-registered as a Class I therapeutic massager intended for the temporary relief of minor muscle and joint aches and pains. FDA registration is not the same as FDA approval or endorsement. Uses outside the device’s labeled intended use may not have been reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
